Inspired by traditional cement-paste tiles, square or hexagonal, whose dominant colors were often in shades of gray and brick. At the very beginning of the twentieth century, cement tiles, together with grit, experienced a period of immense success: since they were considered robust and economical, they often went to cover service rooms, or even work spaces. The composition could be based on the simple alternation of colors, but the cement tiles also lent themselves to much more sophisticated decorative solutions, made with flowers, Greek frets, friezes, which interpreted the suggestions of the dominant liberty and decò styles, or represented a fresh alternative to the carpet, while guaranteeing the same function of delimitation of spaces and aesthetic strength. A recovery that has become a trend, once again reinterpreted on ceramic tiles with new stylistic and chromatic solutions.
